The nursing home residents miss James when he’s unable to make visits. Two weeks ago, James had preliminary surgery on the gum tissue of his lower left jaw and he needed to have some R&R for a few weeks before returning to his therapy dog duties. This is hard on the folks who look forward – with great anticipation – to his visits.
Thursday, James returned to the nursing home and made his usual rounds starting in the physical therapy where the therapists (who enjoy his visits as much as the patients do) were waiting for a report on James’ surgery…
We had been waiting for the biopsy results on James’ gum tissue – which unfortunately reveal a malignant tumor in that area of gum. The good thing is that this type of tumor is not the type that will metastasize to other parts of the body. James will have surgery next Wednesday and will be off his visiting schedule, once again, for a couple of weeks.
I think James enjoyed making his rounds that day as much as the folks adored seeing him. He was really turned on! He snuggled right up to everyone with his tail wagging a mile-a-minute. When he went upstairs to visit with his Alzheimer’s patient, Constance, he gracefully got up on her bed, gave her a kiss, and cozied up right next to her. She was all giggles. I’ve missed you James! James is my friend. I love him. He likes me.
James needs to get better – and stay healthy. He has much good work ahead of him… bringing comfort to those who need it most.
