Today we had another lesson with our trainer Jenn from The Collared Scholar to work on Annie’s shyness. Our last lesson was held at our town library. We had been working through visits to the library all winter long – taking babysteps to the door, then into the foyer, then to the circulation desk… all leading up to feeling relaxed when being in the library and having people approach Annie and pet her.
Now we decided to take it a step further… to meet at a cafe in town and sit outside on the busy street at one of their tables. Annie was terrific… the two women sitting at the table next to us pet Annie and talked to her; others walking into the cafe stopped to talk; a fire engine passed by – siren blaring; lots of other street noise, too. Annie just lay by my side in her relaxed froggy position with a smile on her face. She seemed to be enjoying every minute of the hour that we sat there. She has come such a long way. It’s a joy to see her relaxed and happy in strange places.
