Share in the joy of bringing comfort and companionship to people in need by training to be a certified therapy dog team. We still have a few spots left in our Bright Spot Therapy Dog Training Class running May 22nd and June 5th from 9:30-11:30 at Animal Alliances in Northampton, Massachusetts, conveniently located right off Rte 91.
Classes are kept small to give all participants plenty of opportunity to practice each skill and technique as it is taught in class. You will enjoy the interactive approach used by our instructor Michelle Karb. As various types of equipment, such as the wheelchair, walker, and 4-pronged cane are introduced to the dogs, you will have a chance to role play a patient or a resident interacting with each of the dogs in training.
You will leave each class with an outline of the skills and techniques you’ve been taught and have practiced in class. You and your dog will know exactly what to work on at home to prepare for your evaluation leading to certification. And, ultimately, be equipped to make meaningful visits as a therapy dog team.
Michelle offers ample time to address all questions you have and will talk to you about the wide variety of visiting opportunities available to our Bright Spot certified teams. She will point out the importance of carefully selecting the best type of visiting environment for both you and your dog – we have visiting opportunities working with people of all ages from young children to elders, in both healthcare and in education. Come. Learn. And – Begin a new volunteer endeavor with your sweet, friendly canine pal that will bring so much happiness to others – and to you! Visit our website and register today.
