Therapy dog Lily has one more job to do before we all relax here at Bridgvale Farm and prepare for our Thanksgiving Holiday Feast. After getting a good brushing, Lily waited as I placed her blue Bright Spot vest and ID badge on her. This is her signal that it’s time to get in the car and head to the school.
As we walked through the main entrance of the school, Lily spotted her special friend, Karen, the librarian, in the hallway. She wiggled over to Karen who gave her a big hug. In return, Lily gave Karen a snuggle and a kiss. We then went to the main office to sign in and head to the library to wait for the first graders coming from gym class. First grade library time runs from 1:30-2:10. Then as they leave, the second graders come in.
As usual, each child greeted Lily with a hug as they came in and headed over to sit in a big circle for Mrs. Rousseau’s lesson. Lily’s first reader came over to the Reading-to-a-Dog Corner. Turns out Big Brown Bear is a favorite book amongst the first grade readers. Lily has heard this story read many times, but she listens intently each time it’s read. One child read three books to Lily; one read two; one child reread her book to Lily so she could show her the pictures a second time. A second grader had chosen a book on the solar system thinking that Lily would enjoy learning about the planets and stars. The young reader clearly enjoyed the subject matter which was pretty involved. Lily showed great interest, too.
At the end of the day, therapy dog Lily got good-bye hugs and well-wishes for a… HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
