Many SayHelloSpot readers have been following Coco’s reports throughout the school year. You look forward, as I do, to reading what this amazing dog as been up to each week. If you our new to this blog, Coco’s owner, Michelle, is the assistant principal at Robert E. Melican Middle School in Northborough, MA. Coco often writes about her little sister Sophie and another dog named Molly. All three dogs are Bright Spot Therapy Dogs. Molly’s owner, Julie, is a guidance counselor at the school. Without further ado, here’s Coco…
I went to school with Mom Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and Molly went on Tuesday with her mom, Julie.
We were both able to take several walks outside with students. Molly stayed after school on Tuesday with a student to help him feel more comfortable staying with a teacher. The student was very at-ease because of the relationship he and Molly have formed.
On Monday and Wednesday, I spent lots of time in the therapeutic program, helping students feel calm and comfortable as they worked through the five-day week. I was able to take several walks. On our way home from school Monday, Mom and I stopped for two hours of hospice training. I am not exactly sure what “hospice” is, but Mom says I will understand eventually. Maybe. I slept at Mom’s feet throughout the training.
On Friday, Mom was out of the building for several hours, so I spent time with the guidance counselor and with the behavior specialist. I helped many students. Like I often do on the days I am at school, I went outside with Mom as students boarded buses and left for their long weekend. Many students stopped to pet me or to talk to Mom.
After school on Friday, a teacher stopped in the office to talk with Mom. She explained that her parents’ dog, also named Coco, is not doing well. I guess she has pancreatitis and other health issues. She is old, and the teacher told Mom she thinks it is almost time to say good-bye. I am glad I was able to provide some comfort to her as she talked with Mom about the other Coco.
Mom and I left for the long weekend, feeling like we helped many students and teachers this week, and hoping we are able to do the same next week. ~Coco
