This is week three of the special project King is working on with the Yellows and Greens (2nd and 3rd graders) at the Hilltown Cooperative Charter School in Haydenville, Massachusetts, that will culminate in a Publishing Party where each child will read from their own book written about King.
King has enjoyed every minute of the process. This is special time, extra, a part from his regular Bright Spot Reading Buddy time with the students. What could be more fun for this special dog who loves being with children!
Week one: the interviews. King loved being asked questions about his life. The children took notes as I answered for King. The notes will be used in writing their books. Week two and three: art class where the students learned to draw King.
Last week, not only did King learn what it was like being a model for two straight hours, he had the excitement of joining his class exit the school for a fire drill. When King reported to the office this morning to sign in, the secretaries complimented him on his excellent behavior during the all-school evacuation last week.
Today, was the second week of going to the Atelier with his class and to continue being a model for their drawings. He has really embraced his role as a model. He struck several poses for the children so they would have the experience of sketching him in different ways. Very patiently, he held his poses. I think King would like to become a regular. He and the art teacher really bonded. I think she’s ready to take him on!
King will be back to Hilltown on Thursday for his regular appointed Reading Buddy time slot. This is always a favorite time in King’s week.
