Two second grade readers got an unexpected treat today. Normally, Lilo is the Bright Spot Reading Buddy for the third graders at Westhampton Elementary School on Mondays, but today the third graders were off on a field trip, so two lucky second graders that missed their reading day during Book Fair Week, got to read their books to Lilo.
Every one of the children in grades one through four has been assigned a date to read a book to his/her Reading Buddy. Third graders on Monday read to Lilo. First and second graders on Tuesday read to Lily, and fourth graders on Thursday read to either Zack, Violet, or Lilo. From what we hear, the children are so excited about getting their chance to read to the dog. Home calendars are circled with the date. Books are practiced aloud to family – one girl said she reads to her stuffed animals. Anticipation builds. Occasionally, a particular grade must miss their library time… and the two readers scheduled for that day, miss reading to the dog. Today’s solution was perfect. Lucky readers – and lucky Lilo!
