It never fails… I LOVE to head out on a vacation, BUT I hate leaving the dogs! I don’t like to admit it, but it’s the primary reason I don’t go away that often. This occasion, however, was a very special one: the birth of our second grandchild, a baby girl. Nothing was going to stop us from heading out to Colorado and spending time with sweet baby Pearl Stirling (my mother’s name was Margaret, which means pearl, and her maiden name was Stirling).
So – I did what I always do – what’s best for our dogs: they stay right at home and a wonderful woman cares for them here. For our dogs, this is the best arrangement possible. The dogs know her well and they have a great time with her. They play out in their yard, as they always do. They hang out in the house with their special friend. And, they sleep in their own beds at night. I leave knowing the dogs are in great hands. Frankly, once I head out the door… my focus is on the fun that lies ahead! When we return, they show no signs of having missed us – which to me is the best sign of all.
I must admit, the dogs have been extra affectionate today. Absence does make the heart grow fonder. I’ll take that!
