Today, three lucky fourth graders had their turn reading books to Bright Spot therapy dog Zack. Zack is a wonderful Border Collie who has been a certified therapy dog for many years. Over the years, he has visited patients at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton, MA, and folks living at Lathrop Retirement Community in Easthampton, MA. Working as a Reading Buddy is new to Zack. He loves it – and so do the fourth graders. Zack is a perfect listener!
Zack comes to Westhampton Elementary School every-other-Thursday. So, some fourth graders read to Zack. Others read to Lilo, the Great Dane (who also listens to 3rd graders read on Mondays), and some read to Violet, the Australian Labradoodle. Next Thursday is Lilo’s turn and two assigned fourth graders are excitedly reading their books at home in preparation for their special time reading with Lilo.
