The soldiers, their family members, the staff, and our volunteers all enjoy the camaraderie that takes place when interacting with our Bright Spot Therapy Dogs. One resident speaking on her cell while sitting in her room told the person on the other end of the phone, Oh, the dogs are here. Yup, they come every third Saturday of the month to make us happy. We all love seeing the dogs.
The canteen, the main gathering place in the large facility, is the hub of activity. A myriad of activities takes place in this area. It’s a happy place – and this Saturday – it was made an even happier place by the presence of the seven Bright Spots that circulated through the crowd.
I attended the gathering at the Soldiers Home in Holyoke, Massachusetts, last month with my therapy dog King, but couldn’t make it this past Saturday. I can say that the happiness generated by the presence of the dogs leaves everyone feeling good, and something I enjoy being a part of. My calendar is marked for the third Saturday in March. I simply love seeing and feeling the happiness that abounds.
