After a long holiday break, it was time for therapy dogs Lilo and Lily to head back to Westhampton Elementary School to resume the Bright Spot Reading Buddies Program in the school library. With books in hand, first and second graders eagerly greeted Lily, ready to sit down in the special reading corner and read her a story. Most assigned readers brought 3 and 4 books to read. Lily provided her own special brand of listening skills, confirming to the young readers that she was enjoying every word.
Pre-Schoolers greeted therapy dog Lilo with mail that each had prepared especially for her. Lilo is providing wonderful subject matter for the youngest group of students at the school.
After reading her mail as the Pre-Schoolers looked on, Lilo headed over to the reading corner as assigned 3rd graders read their books to her.
Therapy Dogs Violet and Zack will resume their reading buddie assignments with 4th and 5th graders on Thursday. Our therapy dogs seemed very happy to be back on the job. (A good therapy dog is happy working.) All four dogs are specially trained for the Bright Spot Reading Buddies Program.
