Annie turns ten on July 14. But, this year marks a special time in Annie’s life.
She is being honored as the English Setter who has lived the longest period of time here with us on Bridgvale Farm. Annie shares the household with sister and brother, Lily and King, now eight years old, and her humans, Cynthia and Al.
Before Lily and King, there were Julia and James, also sister and brother. And, before that Phoebe, Trudy, and Beatrice, to start.
Since 1992, eight very special English Setters have come to live here with us. All but Annie, came between the ages of two and seven. It was sweet little Trudy who lived ’til the age of sixteen years and two months, spending her last nine years with us. Trudy was the longest living dog I’ve ever had.
But, Annie started her life here as a ten-week-old puppy – and being that Trudy is her great grandma, we’re hoping here longevity is passed onto Annie.
Since her 10th decade marks a milestone in our family, we’re not just celebrating her 10th birthday on the 14th, but we’re celebrating each day the entire month of July!
Annie is very excited about this kind of celebrating. She enjoys the simple pleasures in life, and has chosen as her special treat each day her own walk with her mom.
Annie loves solo walks with mom, slowly taking in the sights of nature along the way. Stopping to commune with her two horse friends in the pasture next door (they always run over to the fence to greet her when she’s walking by). Together, we check out the brook, stop to watch a woodpecker in a tree high above, or stand like a statue watching the barn cats down the road play with a just-caught mouse. No rush…. this is what Annie loves best to do. This is how Annie will be celebrating all month long.
