Children love getting up close and crawling inside the giant green caterpillar that occupies most of the far wall at the end of the grand main hall of The Eric Carle Museum. He’s known to young children everywhere as The Very Hungry Caterpillar. I couldn’t tear my grandson away from sitting inside the big green fellow with a pile of Eric Carle books on his lap. King was pretty excited about meeting The Very Hungry Caterpillar himself and enjoyed posing in front of him for a photo while he and I toured The Eric Carle Museum yesterday with Director of Education Courtney Waring. King and I were there to discuss plans for the Family Fun Event at The Eric Carle Museum on Saturday, June 7th.
Courtney had read about our Bright Spot Reading Buddy Program in our annual newsletter that she had picked up at Atkins Farm last June. She liked what she read about our highly successful Reading Buddy Program in elementary schools and libraries and decided to invite Bright Spot to participate in this fun, all-day family event. We will have our Bright Spot booth set up with information about our organization, I will give a talk about the work therapy dogs do in the community, and – best of all – we will have several therapy dog teams on hand throughout the day to meet and interact with the children. Plans are just in the beginning stages. There will be lots more to report as the event gets closer.
